the client
WE RECEIVED AN RFB FROM DISCOVER FLAGSTAFF ABOUT A PROJECT THEY WANTED TO START THAT WOULD PROMOTE RESPONSIBLE VISITATION. WE WERE STOKED. WITH MULTIPLE TOURISM PROJECTS UNDER OUR BELT, A PASSION FOR THE OUTDOORS, AND A PROJECT SCOPE THAT 100% ALIGNED WITH OUR BRAND, WE SHARED OUR SLIDE DECK AND WERE AWARDED THE JOB.

our role
Outlive was contracted to provide DISCOVER FLAGSTAFF WITH PROFESSIONAL PHOTO AND VIDEO ASSETS TO SUPPORT RESPONSIBLE VISITATION.
our team HAD FULL CREATIVE CONTROL AND PROVIDED EVERYTHING FROM STRATEGY AND STORY DEVELOPMENT TO post-production editing.

Oversaw the production end of the project to ensure the visual content would be delivered on time and within budget.
story development + pre-production
We wrote the script and created the concept to convey the messaging goal: inspire others to visit responsibly and protect our wild places. We worked with a local native American from the navajo tribe to tell the story of the land through his lens. we presented the 1st draft of our script to discover flagstaff and they were excited. it was 95% approved with minor requests for changes. we were told it was the easiest scriptwriting process they’ve ever experienced.
after the story and concept were approved, we spent a weekend in flagstaff and scouted for local talent and locations that would align with the activities we were shooting. we found a mix of talent by walking around town and searching hashtags on good ol’ Instagram.
Outlive managed all the film permits, crew, equipment, travel arrangements, and talent.
production days
This concept took us 4 days to shoot over the span of 2 weekends. these 4 days were spent working with talent to capture mountain biking, hiking, stand up paddleboarding, trail running, and exploring with a local native American family. we made an effort to only shoot during good light so we scheduled our days around sunrise and sunset and had breaks in between.
in addition to these 4 days, we spent 1 weekend during the new moon cycle to capture beautiful b-roll at sunrise and sunset as well as astrophotography at select locations.
timeline
WE HAD OUR CLIENT DISCOVERY MEETING IN MAY AND COMPLETED STORY DEVELOPMENT, PRE-PRODUCTION, AND PRODUCTION IN JUNE - JUST BEFORE MONSOON SEASON. ALL OF THE FINAL DELIVERABLES WERE SENT AND APPROVED BY SEPTEMBER. THIS WAS ONE OF THE BIGGEST CHALLENGES WE FACED ON THIS PROJECT AS THE DEADLINES TO GET EVERYTHING SHOT BEFORE MONSOONS WERE VERY TIGHT.
deliverables
The deliverables included 18x IMAGES, 1X 3 MINUTE VIDEO, 1X 30 SECOND CUTDOWN, AND 1X 60 SECOND CUTDOWN.
