STORY DEVELOPMENT + PRE-PRODUCTION

WITH 8X DIFFERENT TALENT BEING FEATURED IN THE VIDEO, WE KNEW THE STRUCTURE AND BACKBONE OF THIS MINIDOC WERE A CRUCIAL PIECE TO EFFECTIVELY TELLING THE STORY. EACH INDIVIDUAL BROUGHT A UNIQUE PIECE TO THE STORY THAT WE WERE ABLE TO IDENTIFY BY PRE-INTERVIEWING THE TALENT BEFORE THE SHOOT. BY DOING THIS, WE CRAFTED A COHESIVE SCRIPT THAT WOULD TELL THE STORY IN A SEAMLESS MANNER BETWEEN OUR TALENT. OUR SCRIPT WAS 95% APPROVED ON THE FIRST DRAFT WITH MINOR EDIT REQUESTS TO THE LANGUAGE.

BELOW ARE THE GOALS THAT THE SCRIPT HAD TO MEET:

  • Showcase new public art sculptures

  • Showcase the diversity of participating artists

  • Showcase artists and their voices

  • Tie in the region and land to the art/project

  • What is the historical significance of the site

  • Show they have a long history and not only of the past - their current art represents that

  • Reflect collective and individual experience

after the story and concept were approved, we BEGAN SOURCING OUR crew, equipment, travel arrangements, and SCHEDULES.

PRODUCTION DAYS

THIS PROJECT CONSISTED OF 5X SHOOT DAYS SPREAD OUT BETWEEN FLAGSTAFF, TUBA CITY, AND PHOENIX. WE CAPTURED A MIX OF TALKING HEAD INTERVIEWS, B ROLL, AND EVENT COVERAGE WITH THE ARTISTS AND CITY PARTNERS.

TIMELINE

FROM CONCEPT TO COMPLETION TOOK AROUND 3 MONTHS. THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE WAS THAT THE ARTISTS HAD ALREADY BEEN WORKING ON THEIR SCULPTURES PRIOR TO THE PROJECT STARTING. THIS PUT PRESSURE ON THE TEAM TO FINALIZE THE SCRIPT SO WE COULD STILL CAPTURE B ROLL OF THE ARTISTS WORKING AND THEIR INTERVIEW ALL IN THE SAME DAY.

DELIVERABLES

THE DELIVERABLES INCLUDED 1X 7-8 MINUTE MINIDOC AND 35X EDITED IMAGES.
